Teak Trees

Although several investment funds already include Forestry in their portfolio many people are unaware that private individuals can now buy valuable tropical hardwood trees such as Teak - directly from the plantation company.  You are given a lease for the land your trees will be grown on, and your trees will be tagged and certificates provided for them. Your trees are then grown and managed by the plantation company but owners have complete control over their trees. When the trees are harvested the profits are paid back to the owners.

  • Ecological timber growing projects that are good for the planet

  • Clearly defined exit strategy- profits paid to from year 4- 6
  • Teak and Agarwood is in big demand on international markets
  • Invest in this project from £10,000, plus crop management costs
  • Income Tax, Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax advantages
  • Allowable to be held within a SIPP (Self Invested Pension Plan)
  • Backed by Sri Lanka Board of Investment under Act of Constitution

This is a "retail opportunity" where you are buying valuable exotic hardwood trees, which will be grown and managed on the land you lease. When the trees are harvested the tree owners make a profit. Even though it takes Teak 18 years to fully mature, investors begin to see a return within just 4 years. The tables below reflect the actual results from the first tree thinnings, original historically-based data for the subsequent thinnings and final harvests. The "Cumulative Returns" are shown in the end column. This illustration is based on £10,000 invested (300 Teak Trees). The harvest dates are for projections only, the actual dates are up to the tree owner who will receive annual forestry audit reports that are overseen by BDO Stoy Hayward, Colombo.

The Eco Land & Property SIPP accepts these products for those looking at an alternative pension strategy.
